Number of flu deaths in Greece this winter surpasses 100

The number of flu-related deaths in Greece exceeded 100 on Wednesday, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO), which has been monitoring the spike in the number of cases of the virulent H1N1 strain this year.

KEELPNO said on Monday that 101 people have died since the start of the flu season this year and 48 are currently undergoing treatment in intensive-care units.

It added that a total of 275 have been hospitalized due to the flu, stressing that most fatalities occurred among patients with underlying chronic illnesses such as heart problems or serious respiratory ailments.
