Greek foreign minister to meet US VP and Turkey's Davutoglu in Munich
Greek foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos is to hold talks with US Vice President Joe Biden and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on the sidelines of an annual security conference in Munich.
Avramopoulos is due to meet Biden for informal talks on Friday in the first contact between the Greek government and Barack Obama’s administration since the US president’s re-election. The meeting comes a day after United Nations mediator Matthew Nimetz held talks in New York with representatives from Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia over the name dispute between the two countries. Nimetz said that two countries positions had “crystalized” and they were “working hard” to reach an agreement.
Avramopoulos’s talks with Davutoglu on Saturday are expected to focus on the meeting of the Greek-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council in Ankara on March 5.
