Greek wind power market picks up again

Operating wind power capacity in Greece grew by 7.9 percent in the second half of 2013, amounting to 1,864.6 megawatts (MW), according to market data released this week by the Hellenic Scientific Association of Wind Energy (ELETAEN).

The new wind power capacity installed within that period comes to 71.15 MW, according to the same data. The figure is double compared to the first six months of 2013 and seven times more than the same period in 2012.

On a regional level, Central Greece leads in installed wind power with 30.8 percent, or 573.8 MW, while the Peloponnese follows with 18.6 percent, or 347.55 MW.

Five groups share about two-thirds of the installed power. They are EDF with 322.8 MW (17.3 percent), TERNA Energy with 277.4 MW (14.9 percent), Iberdrola Rokas with 250.7 MW (13.4 percent), Enel Green Power with 200.5 MW (10.8 percent) and Ellaktor with 162.9 MW (8.7 percent).
