Despite NBG denial, speculation on Finansbank sale rages on
Investors are buying Finansbank AS’s bonds on speculation yields will keep falling should owner National Bank of Greece sell the lender, cutting the securities’ link to the nation hardest hit by the euro crisis, even as NBG denies reports of talks with Qatar National Bank SAQ and HSBC Holdings Plc.
“Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and the way I see it, if NBG does have to sell, it’s positive,” Kathleen Middlemiss, a credit analyst at UBS in London, said by e-mail on Thursday.
“If they don’t have to sell, then NBG is doing okay, and again it’s positive.”
