New film, TV agency in the works

New film, TV agency in the works

A Culture Ministry draft bill that has been put up for public consultation foresees the creation of a new agency bringing together the two bodies responsible for film and television.

Named Creative Greece, the umbrella agency will be responsible for improving the thorny issue of cash rebates for foreign productions that are entirely or partly located in Greece. It will also introduce measures to attract more such projects and provide funding to emerging Greek artists.

On the TV front, the ministry wants to weed out long-running series of dubious quality by channeling funds into more ambitious projects, while also backing only the first two seasons of new series.
