Ejekt Festival to feature Pet Shop Boys, Happy Mondays

Featuring a roster of established and up-and-coming acts including the Pet Shop Boys, Happy Mondays and James Blake, the Ejekt Festival takes place at Plateia Nerou (Water Square) in Neo Faliro, southern Athens, on Tuesday, July 16.

Originally established in 2005, the festival has so far hosted international acts such as the Chemical Brothers, Moby and the Beastie Boys, among others, as well as about 55,000 music loving visitors.

This year’s lineup includes electronic pop duo Pet Shop Boys, namely Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, who are coming to Athens as part of their traveling Electric Tour 2013, a production mixing old and new tracks complemented by a visual show. The British artists appear on stage the day after the release of their 12th studio album, titled “Electric.” The album includes a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “The Last to Die” and dance tracks such as “Axis.”

British alternative rockers Happy Mondays, whose hits include «Step On,» «Twenty-Four Hour Party People» and «Kinky Afro,» are also on the evening’s agenda, along with fellow Brits Palma Violets and James Blake.

The Ejekt Festival also features three Greek acts stemming from the local English-speaking music scene. The Viper Vikings, Jamming Funkers and The Bitter Sweet were selected through an online competition featuring some 120 bands and over 600 musicians from around Greece.
