Two presidents attend premiere of ‘King Lear’

Praise for a «brilliant performance» brought a smile to the lips of the National Theater’s artistic director Nikos Kourkoulas after its performance of Shakespeare’s «King Lear,» directed by Slobodan Ounkofski and attended by President Karolos Papoulias. It played to a packed house which warmly applauded Dimitris Kataleifos in the title role, along with the other actors. The translation was by Errikos Belies, the sets by Meta Hosevar, costumes by Angelina Atlazik, music by Vassilis Dimitriou and lighting by Antonis Panayiotopoulos. Not only is our incumbent president a fan of the theater but so is his predecessor Constantine Stephanopoulos, who was also there with Justice Minister Anastassios Papaligouras, Labor Minister Panos Panayiotopoulos, many PASOK deputies, Director of the National Art Gallery Marina Lambraki-Plaka, Marianna Latsi and the film director Pantelis Voulgaris.
