Capital hosts double tribute to the late singer-songwriter Jacques Brel

It has been 30 years since the premature death of Jacques Brel, the most famous Belgian post-WWII artist. Brel, the passionate interpreter of legendary songs «Ne me quitte pas» and «Amsterdam,» who abandoned everything to sail off on his beloved sailing boat, passed away unexpectedly on October 9, 1978. Greece is now marking the 30th anniversary of Brel’s death with an exhibition and two concerts. The exhibition, on display at the Piraeus Municipal Gallery (29 Filonos, in the former post office building) contains rare photographs, manuscripts and letters and will run to Friday. The second of the two concerts dedicated to Brel – the first took place yesterday – will be held tonight, with soprano Sonia Theodoridou. In a performance directed by Nikos Mastorakis, Theodoridou will be joined by Thodoros Kotepanos, who will lead a small music ensemble, while actor Giorgos Glastras will also participate.
