Traditional Portuguese fados by a young diva at the Half Note Jazz Club this week

The Half Note Jazz Club is a fan of continuity. Foreign guest artists alternate one after another without a break and this week is dedicated to a delicate and sensational voice. For the past 10 years, Joana Amendoeira has been considered one of the more important fado singers. Although just 26 years old, the vocalist has enlivened classic Portuguese fados with a new glamour, while at the same time remaining faithful to the tradition. Following in the steps of her father, Pedro Amendoeira, one of Portugal’s most talented guitarists, she has rightfully established her position among fado singers: In 2004 she won the Revelation Award by the Casa da Imprensa and in 2005 she released her fourth album, «Ao Vivo em Lisboa,» her first solo performance, which was recorded at a very well-known Lisbon venue, the Teatro Municipal Sao Luiz. Shows start at 10.30 p.m. The club offers a reduced entrance on Monday nights. Half Note Jazz Club, 17 Trivonianou, Mets, tel 210.921.3360, www.halfnote.gr.
