Selective buying lifts Athens bourse 0.68 pct

Greek stocks advanced on selective blue-chip buying on Thursday, but failed to close the gap with the 1,600 point mark, ending up 0.68 percent.

The Athens bourse?s benchmark general index closed at 1,580.67 points, after touching on an intra-session high of 1,596 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index firmed 0.87 percent to end at 733.06 points.

Banks advanced 0.62 percent. Bank of Cyprus advanced 4.58 percent to 2.74 euros while OTE telecom jumped 3.75 percent to 7.47 euros.

Cement company Titan also outperformed, gaining 6.76 percent to 18 euros. Among the losers, toy retailer Jumbo fell 2.23 percent to 5.70 euros and power company PPC dipped 2.82 percent to top at 11.39 euros.

Turnover reached 99.1 million euros, versus 111 million euros previously.
