Quiet bourse session as investors wait

The Greek bourse had a rather quiet day yon Thursday as investors chose to wait for the outcome of Friday?s European Union summit before placing their bets. Most stocks posted losses but the main index registered a slight increase.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,544.88 points, rising 0.25 percent from Wednesday?s close at 1,541.02 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded 0.40 percent to end at 711.91 points, although the mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index gave up 0.20 percent.

Public Power Corporation outperformed other blue chips with growth of 4.23 percent, ahead of Bank of Cyprus (up 2.67 percent), Hellenic Postbank (2.19 percent), Mytilineos (2.16 percent) and Eurobank EFG (1.56 percent).

Worst off were Marfin Investment Group (down 2.56 percent), Alpha Bank (1.67 percent) and Piraeus Bank (1.40 percent).

In total, 71 stocks moved up, 86 went down and 48 remained unchanged. Attikat led the gainers with a 16.67 percent rise, while Eleftheri Tileorasi posted the biggest loss, amounting to 18.33 percent.

Turnover came to just 74.7 million euros on Thursday, down from 86.2 million on Wednesday.
