Taxi liberalization bill to Parl’t next week
The liberalization of the taxi drivers? profession will go ahead, despite vehement opposition, as it is part of Greece?s commitment to foreign creditors, Deputy Transport and Networks Minister Yiannis Magriotis told Skai television on Wednesday.
Magriotis said the legislation detailing the liberalization of the sector would probably be attached to a ?multi-bill? containing several other reforms that the government is to submit to Parliament next week.
As regards public works, the minister said that projects worth 2.4 billion euros were planned for this year.
He said that four stalled highway projects were expected to resume in coming months. ?The four major highway works can be launched by the summer,? he said, noting that the projects had stopped following a funding freeze by banks. The banks are now expected to begin the release of funding again ?as, following the stabilization of the Greek economy and the PSI, the risk has gone,? Magriotis said, referring to a debt swap between the government and private creditors that was finalized last week.
