Local stocks edge higher in very quiet trade

With no developments expected in the foreseeable future as regards the major structural reforms the country needs, the Greek stock market continued to buy time on Thursday, edging upward during a session of minimum turnover.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 622.26 points, adding 1.40 percent to Wednesday?s closing figure of 613.65 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 1.67 percent to close at 226.44 points.

Jumbo led the rising blue chips with gains of 5.26 percent, followed by OPAP (up 4.91 percent). Marfin Investment Group declined by 2.69 percent.

In total, 55 stocks posted gains, 53 recorded losses and 29 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to just 15.8 million euros, slightly up from Wednesday?s 13.6 million.
