Most Cypriots support idea of bailout loan MoU

Almost six out of 10 Greek Cypriots are in favor of a memorandum of understanding between Nicosia and its prospective creditors regarding a bailout loan, according to a survey conducted for the Cypriot edition of Kathimerini.

Despite the strict terms it is set to impose on the island, the agreement that is yet to be reached garnered the support of 58 percent of respondents in the survey, while among the unemployed the rate was slightly higher, at 60 percent.

While the government of President Dimitris Christofias (photo) is supported only by left-wing party AKEL, 61 percent the party’s supporters rejected the bailout plan.

However 80 percent of right-wing party DISY supporters were in favor.
