Bourse rises higher on rumors of capital gains tax delay

The likely postponement of the capital gains tax on shares, by six months, saw Greek stocks grow for a seventh consecutive session on Wednesday, despite reports that National Bank will need more funds for its share capital increase.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 983.91 points, expanding by 0.35 percent from Tuesday’s 980.52 points.

Nevertheless, the market’s large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 contracted by 0.07 percent to end at 336.21 points.

Ellaktor led the blue chips, adding 5.56 percent, while Piraeus Bank gave up 4.37 percent.

In total 110 stocks registered gains, 59 showed losses and 27 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 72.5 million euros, down from Tuesday’s 84.2 million.
