National Bank confident it will attract private investment to achieve recap target

National Bank chief executive Alexandros Tourkolias told shareholders on Monday that he is confident that the lender can attract private interest to achieve a 10 percent increase in share capital.

Speaking at an extraordinary meeting of shareholders in Athens, Tourkolias said National Bank could avoid being nationalized.

“Based on the assurances we have and the messages we have been receiving, we believe that we can achieve the target,” he said.
