Piraeus port cruises ahead

Cruise passenger numbers at Piraeus reached a new record in August, as the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) announced on Tuesday that transit passengers at the country’s main port soared by 43.22 percent from 230,096 in August 2012 to 329,540 last month, the highest number in the last six years.

The operation of a second cruise passenger terminal at Piraeus allowed for the smooth handling of the volume of tourists, while a third terminal is set to start operating from April 2014. That is also the date set for the delivery of the two new mooring spots at Akti Miaouli.

Besides those projects, OLP is also promoting the extension of the southern cruise port so that it can serve bigger cruise ships.

In the first seven months of the year the volume of transit cruise passengers had grown by 11.6 percent.
