ATHEX: Stocks regain some of the ground lost on Monday

The Greek exchanged bounced back on Tuesday from losses in Monday’s session but turnover remained at a very low level as traders are at a loss as to what to believe regarding the possibility of a deal between Athens and its creditors in time before the deadline of the country’s next payment.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 822.61 points, adding 1.05 percent to Monday’s 814.06 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index expanded 1.21 percent to close at 245.86 points, while small-caps declined 0.54 percent.

Among blue chips the biggest gains were for EYDAP (5.61 percent) and Terna Energy (4.38 percent), while Hellenic Exchanges contracted 4.60 percent and Marfin Investment Group declined 2.70 percent.

In total, 59 stocks reported gains, 52 suffered losses and 17 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 51.8 million euros, up from Monday’s year-low of 29.2 million.
