Computer sales halve in the third quarter

Computer sales in Greece dropped 50 percent in the third quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2014, according to data compiled by the US-based research company IDC.

The historic low is attributed almost entirely to the capital controls that were introduced on June 28, although the broader market of Europe, Africa and the Middle East posted a 23 percent drop in the same period as a result of the instability in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Greek IT companies add that Microsoft’s free software upgrade further hindered sales of new computers.
