Scheme to employ and train thousands of long-term jobless

The Labor Ministry on Thursday announced the first 17 municipalities with high unemployment rates that will enter the Community Labor program, which aims to get 6,918 jobless Greeks back into employment.

The program, which lasts for eight months, will expand to another 32 municipalities across the country in its second phase.

The new scheme is longer than the previous, five-month program and includes employment, compulsory advisory services, skill certification and optional training on the last day of each week.

The main priority is the return of the long-term unemployed to the labor market.
