ATHEX: Corporate results sway stock market

With the Eurogroup dust having settled, the Greek bourse produced a mixed picture on Thursday, largely affected by the first-quarter corporate results that a number of listed companies have been coming out with this week.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 645.40 points, adding 0.56 percent to Wednesday’s 641.80 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index contracted 0.09 percent to end at 180.74 points, while mid-caps advanced 2.61 percent.

Banks (down 0.02 percent) held the blue chip index in negative territory, as they saw Piraeus fall 4.14 percent and National drop 0.66 percent. Eurobank was a non-mover while Alpha expanded 2.02 percent. Metka (up 5.83 percent) and Public Power Corporation (5.71 percent) were the day’s champions, followed by Folli Follie (3.14 percent) and Jumbo (3.01 percent), while OTE telecom declined 2.43 percent and Coca-Cola HBC gave up 1.97 percent.

In total 55 stocks reported gains, 46 sustained losses and 21 remained unchanged.

Turnover was the lowest of the last five sessions, amounting to 84 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 163.4 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange increased 0.43 percent to close at 67.89 points.
