ATHEX: Benchmark posts small gains on day of little action
Holidays in the UK and US saw the trading week in Greece get off to a quiet start, with blue chips and the benchmark reporting gains while the majority of stocks headed south.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 641.04 points, adding 0.66 percent to Friday’s 636.83 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 1.04 percent to end at 178.58 points, but mid-caps fell 0.21 percent and small-caps contracted 1.86 percent.
Alpha Bank finished near the day’s high at 2.54 euros, adding 4.10 percent. It was followed by Lamda Development (up 3.12 percent), OPAP (2.62 percent) and Motor Oil (2.23 percent). Public Power Corporation declined 3.95 percent and Ellaktor lost 3.27 percent.
In total 53 stocks registered gains, 58 posted losses and 22 closed unchanged.
Turnover was the lowest of the last seven sessions, amounting to 46.1 million euros, down from last Friday’s 63.2 million.
In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange decreased 0.27 percent to close at 67.27 points.
