Commissioner Bulc to visit Posidonia on Friday, its final day

The biggest ever Posidonia shipping exhibition draws to a close on Friday with a number of important events, the most highly awaited of which is a joint press conference with European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc and representatives from the Union of Greek Shipowners.

The press conference, which will likely touch on the issue of Commission pressure on Greece to alter its shipowners’ tax status, starts at 11 a.m. at the Metropolitan Expo Center next to Athens Airport. Bulc will then have a working lunch with Greek Shipping Minister Theodoros Dritsas, before giving a speech at the Young Executive Shipping Forum in the Posidonia Conference Hall at 3 p.m.

City University London and Lloyd’s Register will formally announce their collaboration in Greece at a special event at Seminar Room 3 at 4.30 p.m. City University’s Law and Engineering schools now run two respected maritime courses in Greece: the LLM in Maritime Law and the MSc in Maritime Operations and Management. These postgraduate degree courses are taught in the Hellenic Lloyd’s Register seminar rooms in Piraeus.

At 11 a.m., Seminar Room 2 will host a conference titled “Cyprus: Sailing to the Future… Solutions for the Shipping Industry,” with the participation of the general director of the Cypriot Ministry of Transport and president of the Cyprus Ports Authority, Alekos Michaelides.
