Ministry urges consumers to exercise right of non-payment without receipt
The Finance Ministry’s General Secretariat for Public Revenues on Friday issued a public announcement urging consumers to exercise their right not to pay for goods and services if they are not issued a legal receipt.
In the announcement, the authority stresses that a bill of order or the receipt from a card transaction are not considered a legal receipt and urged consumers to demand a proper receipt that lists the business’s details and tax number.
The announcement came as part of the ministry’s efforts to crack down on widespread tax evasion, following the discovery of hundreds of violations by accommodation and catering business, particularly at popular holiday destinations.
