ENFIA bills to go online by end of month

Calculations for this year’s ENFIA property tax will be posted on the site of the General Secretariat for Information Systems (gsis.gr) by the end of the month, according to comments made to Skai by Deputy Finance Minister Tryfon Alexiadis.

The first installment will be due in September.

Alexiadis said that the tax would be payable in five installments, the last due in January 2017. He added that the majority of taxpayers will pay the same or less than last year.

He added that certain taxpayers will have to pay more. According to Finance Ministry data, around 2.2 million homeowners will have to pay increased tax from 1 cent up to 50 euros. Revised property values plus the non-application of a 20 percent discount for vacant properties not connected to the electricity grid were cited as reasons.

The government has been preparing a new tax to replace ENFIA. It will have a tax-free threshold and will transfer the burden to large properties and to the total sum of properties owned.

The Ministry of Finance intends to create an electronic property register. From February, 8,500,000 taxpayers will be required to declare their total assets in property and other forms.
