Electronic one-stop shop for setting up enterprises

The Economy and Development Ministry is promising that entrepreneurs will be able to set up a company from their laptop at home or at the office in the not-too-distant future, according to a bill it has put up for public consultation until October 5.

The electronic One-Stop Shop (e-OSS) will considerably reduce the time and the costs required to set up a business today, although it will not apply before the spring of 2017, as dictated by the ministry’s timetable.

The plan provides for the pilot operation of the service for the creation of private capital enterprises from March 2017, with a view to full activation for all other forms of enterprises by the end of the first half of next year.

The e-OSS service will operate through the website of the General Commercial Register (GEMI), at www.businessportal.gr, and will only be available to companies that do not require a notary document. The platform will have online connections with the Finance Ministry’s Taxisnet system and the social security funds, so that it can supply all documents required, such as tax register number, social security clearance etc.

For the first year of the e-OSS, entrepreneurs using it will not have to pay the single levy for enterprise creation that has applied since 2010. After the first year, the revenues from the levy will go directly to the state budget and not to the local chambers, a measure the latter are opposing.
