Focus is on global issues
Economy and Finance Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis (left) met yesterday morning with the new governor of the Bank of Greece, Giorgos Provopoulos, who recently took over the post from Nicholas Garganas. In their first meeting since the change of the central bank head, Alogoskoufis congratulated Provopoulos on the assumption of his new duties. The two officials had an extensive discussion on recent developments in the global economy and their impact on the eurozone and Greece in particular. After the meeting they declined to make any statements. They will have a formal meeting once a month, the ministry announced. Provopoulos, 58, was formerly chief executive at Greece’s fourth-largest lender, Piraeus Bank.
