Greek tourism graces hallowed halls of Harrods

Tourism Minister Costas Markopoulos is seen speaking at the inauguration of a Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) exhibition at Harrods in London yesterday. The UK is the biggest market for Greece’s tourism sector, as some 2.5 million Britons visit Greek shores every year. The global economic downturn and the appreciation of the euro against the pound has however raised concerns that a large number of hard-hit British consumers may be planning to sidestep Greece this year. The GNTO exhibition, which will run at Harrods until the end of February, will promote Greece via video screens, an exhibition of GNTO posters and the distribution of advertising material. An estimated 1 million people will visit Harrods during Greece’s advertising campaign, according to officials.
