Stocks retreat 0.24 percent

Greek stocks eased 0.24 percent yesterday as investors continued to trim positions in bank shares. The Athens Exchange’s benchmark general index ended at 1,507.39 points, trailing behind solid gains on major European peers. Banks shed 1.45 percent after losing 4.6 percent on Tuesday. Eurobank retreated 4.26 percent to 3.60 euros before its 2008 earnings were announced after the close of trade. Marfin Popular Bank slumped 5.74 percent to 1.15 euros. Real estate developer Babis Vovos fell 24.01 percent to 2.69 euros after news it might not be able to lift a court injunction blocking one of its major projects in Athens. Turnover reached 109.1 million euros versus 137.5 million euros in the previous session.
