Economic woes on EU agenda

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Kohout, Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, Czech Prime Minister Jan Fischer and Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis (seen left to right) arrive for an EU summit in Brussels, yesterday. Tackling Europe’s growing economic problems, climate change, reviving the bloc’s ambitious reform treaty and discussing a second term for European Union chief Jose Manuel Barroso are the issues topping the agenda at a two-day EU leaders summit that began yesterday. The leaders were also expected to evaluate new plans to stem rising joblessness and prevent future banking crises, according to officials.
