An aerial shot of Athens International Airport (AIA) is seen here in a file photo. Sun Express, a joint-venture flight service between Turk Hava Yollari AO and Lufthansa, is to begin a new route from the Turkish port city of Izmir to Athens this month. The airline will conduct two flights a week from Izmir to the Greek capital starting August 15, according to an e-mailed statement from Athens International Airport. The addition of the Athens-Izmir route is the airport’s eighth new link for 2009, according to AIA. Turk Hava, also known as Turkish Airlines, and Lufthansa, Europe’s second-biggest carrier, set up Sun Express in 1989, according to the release.
