Energy assets could draw Edison interest

Italian power company Edison could be interested in Greek energy assets the government may include in its 2010 privatization program, its chief executive officer, Umberto Quadrino, said yesterday. According to Athens News Agency, Quadrino met with Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou and and Environment Minister Tina Birbili, among other senior government officials, in Athens where they discussed developments in the domestic power market, including progress on the Turkey-Greece-Italy gas pipeline. Edison is also present in the Greek energy market through its joint venture with petrol refinery Hellenic Petroleum, called Elpedison. The government’s 2.5-billion-euro state sell-off program is likely to be unveiled next week.
