Restored monastery opens in Cyprus as peace talks begin

A pilgrim takes a photo of the church at the Apostolos Andreas Monastery, on a rocky outcrop near the tip of Cyprus’s northeastern Karpass Peninsula, which opened Monday after two years of restoration works. The 5-million-euro project was funded by both ethnic communities, with a small contribution from the US Agency for International Development (USAID). "Completion of the renovation project by Greek and Turkish Cypriots offers a message of hope," tweeted Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, in Switzerland for new UN-backed peace talks on a peace deal.
