1st Sector
The Law School of Athens University is still the first choice for many candidates, 2,066 this year. The first 10 schools in the first academic sector, in order of candidate preference, were the same as last year – though there was some change in the order. The Athens Academy of Athletics rose to second place this year, with 1,073 candidates making it their first choice (as opposed to 899 candidates last year, when it placed fourth). Teacher training schools are also in great demand, despite the fact that the teaching profession has been saturated for some years now. Two primary school teacher training departments – Athens and Thessaloniki – come in seventh and tenth place respectively. This interest justifies a better absorption of primary school teachers by state education. It is noteworthy that in this first sector, none of the TEI departments, such as library management, social work and nursery school training, was able to rise to the top 10.
