AI helps Greek authorities intercept drug shipment

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) intercepted a cache of illegal drugs at the capital’s port thanks to a new risk assessment algorithm, it said on Thursday.

The drugs, 16 kilograms of cocaine, were found by an X-ray robot hidden in a cargo container packed with bananas at Piraeus Port’s third customs terminal.

The ship the container was on had sailed from Costa Rica and was en route to Croatia, AADE said.

The drugs are said to have a street value of around 650,000 euros.
