Lawmakers vote to lift Polakis’ immunity

Lawmakers on Wednesday voted in favor of lifting the immunity of SYRIZA MP Pavlos Polakis, with 260 votes in favor, two against, and one abstention.

The request to lift Polakis’ immunity stemmed from a lawsuit filed by New Democracy MP Periklis Mantas, who was accused by the former alternate health minister of owning an offshore company and failing to settle a debt of approximately 700,000 euros to the government.

Polakis claimed that the move to lift his immunity is politically motivated. He also claimed that his complaints were not evaluated by the parliament speaker and the head of the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) so that the matter could be dealt with on an institutional level.
