Kasselakis criticizes PM’s remarks about ADAE chief

The leader of Greece’s leftist opposition has criticized Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his remarks concerning the head of the Hellenic Authority for Communications Security and Privacy (ADAE), Christos Rammos, who is currently investigating the wiretapping scandal.

“In addition to the recent revelations about the clandestine world of wiretapping activities at Maximos Mansion, we are now witnessing the character assassination of honorable individuals like Mr Rammos,” said SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis in a social media post on Thursday.

He was referring to a comment made by Mitsotakis in Parliament on Wednesday when he criticized Rammos for having “a personal agenda.”

Kasselakis went on to say, “We can observe how a government can push a principled public official to a state of despair, making him feel that Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ remarks in Parliament have negatively impacted both his professional and personal reputation.”

Rammos himself responded to the prime minister’s comments during a conference on the role of independent authorities on Thursday evening.

“After serving as a judge at the Council of State for forty years, I have never provided any grounds for criticism, and there has never been a whisper of rumor about me. It is profoundly distressing to see my honor, reputation, dignity, character, and, even more importantly, my judicial integrity, being tarnished,” he said.
