Six suspects linked to heroin-smuggling ring arrested in Greece

Police said on Tuesday that they had broken a large drug racket following the arrest of six suspected ring members – two Greeks and four Albanians – in Karditsa, central Greece, and the northern cities of Kavala and Thessaloniki.

The two Greeks, aged 43 and 53, were arrested in Karditsa last month with 23 kilograms of heroin in packages that they were allegedly planning to hand over to the Albanian suspects for delivery to Italy.

Police officers arrived for the handover, which had been scheduled to take place in Thessaloniki on Tuesday, and arrested the Albanian suspects in two luxury cars that had been fitted with special compartments to conceal the drugs.
