No transport except buses on Thursday

City buses will be the only form of public transport to operate on Thursday as workers on trolley buses, the metro, the tram and the Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway (ISAP) are to stage a 24-hour walkout. Transport workers, who called off a scheduled strike this week after heavy snow caused problems on roads, are resuming their protests against the government?s plans to streamline their services which will involve the transfer of hundreds of employees to other, less lucrative, posts in the state sector.

In a related development, the Urban Transport Organization (OASA) announced on Friday that commuters who have tickets issued before February 1, when prices increased, can trade them for new tickets between March 14 and 31. Tickets can be traded at OASA?s offices at Metsovou, 25, at Syntagma and Panepistimou metro stations and at ISAP?s Piraeus station.
