Six stations on Athens?s Proastiakos suburban railway will no longer be issuing tickets, the operators announced on Tuesday.

Ticket booths have been closed at the stations of Lefka, Rendi, Rouf, Aspropyrgos, Neas Peramou and Kineta, due to cost-cutting measures being imposed by TrainOSE SA, the company that operates the railway.

Company representatives said that the cost of manning ticket booths ran to 13,000 euros a month, when revenues from these station amounted to just 4,000 euros.

Passengers are advised to purchase their tickets in advance at other stations until automatic ticket vending machines can be installed at these stations.
