State hospital protest today
Public hospital workers will be staging a symbolic protest in emergency rooms today, allowing patients free entry, without the standard 5-euro fee for visits.
On March 31 they will stage a 24-hour strike at provincial hospitals and a five-hour walkout (from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) at hospitals in Athens and Piraeus. Hospital employees demand wage increases, that the National Health Service (ESY) retain its public character and that their work be classed as ?heavy and dangerous? (leading to early retirement).
Doctors in the National Health Service (ESY) have called a 24-hour strike for Wednesday, March 30. They are demanding that there be no closing or merging of medical facilities, ?decent wages? and free public health care.
