Education Ministry probes fraud at schools
The Education Ministry has launched an investigation after applications submitted by would-be directors and advisers to state schools were found to contain forged university degree certificates and fake birth certificates, Skai has learned.
Education Minister Anna Diamantopoulou has asked for a meticulous inspection of all applications, noting that cases that might warrant criminal charges of fraud would be forwarded to a prosecutor.
According to sources, some applicants made references to stints served at non-existent schools. Ministry officials said that numerous suspicious cases were being probed but did not give exact numbers.
In Attica alone, a total of 500 applications were submitted this year for 180 school director positions.
