Insurance fraudsters caught in Thessaloniki
Police in Thessaloniki carried out a series of raids in the northern port city and neighboring areas on Wednesday in a bid to catch members of a ring of insurance fraudsters.
The gang is believed to have swindled 1.5 million euros from Ethniki Insurance, a subsidiary of National Bank of Greece, by staging traffic accidents to claim bogus insurance payments.
The scam is alleged to have involved employees of the insurance company, owners of car repair workshops and insurance agents.
