Police protest pay cuts

Special guards of the Greek police force on Monday suspended a large banner reading ?Pay day, grief day? off the side of the wall surrounding the Church of Aghios Georgios atop Lycabettus Hill in central Athens in protest at further pay cuts being planned by the government to public sector wages.

A representative for the special guards said that they will be holding a protest march outside Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, while representatives for four police groups on Crete announced that they will be ramping up protest action over the next few days as well.
