Police protest low salaries

The policemen?s union (POASY-POAXIA) issued a statement Tuesday complaining that spending cuts have reduced wages in the force too much.

The union said 49 percent of almost 50,000 employees receive between 500 and 1,000 euros per month, while another 43 percent earn between 1,000 and 1,500 euros per month.

Police officers launched protests against the austerity measures this week.
