More transport chaos on Wednesday

Commuters and motorists face a particularly difficult day on Wednesday as there will be no transport services in operation at all with staff on the Athens metro, the Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway (ISAP), the tram, buses, trolley buses and suburban railway all walking off the job.

Employees, who are protesting public sector cutbacks, walked off the job on Tuesday too but some services, inculding ISAP and the tram, continued to operate.

There will be no taxis either on Wednesday as cabbies, who are protesting the opening of their sector to competition, launch a 48-hour strike.

Transport workers are also planning action for Friday with strikes expected on the metro, the national rail network, ISAP and the tram.
