Prosecutor charges 29, including navy, defense staff in sub probe

Greece?s chief financial prosecutor Grigoris Peponis on Thursday brought a string of criminal charges against 29 people including navy officers and former Defense Ministry officials in connection to an order by the Greek government for German submarines a decade ago.

The suspects, who were not identified, face charges of bribery, embezzlement, breach of duty and money laundering regarding the order from German shipbuilding consortium HDW-Ferrostaal.

Former Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos has also been implicated in the affair.
