Kouvelis welcomes deal, warns of too much interference
The latest eurozone deal will help make Greek debt more sustainable, Fotis Kouvelis, leader of the opposition Democratic Left party, said Thursday.
However, he warned against too much interference from the debt-hit country’s foreign lenders.
?The country does not need heavy supervision, only technical assistance and know-how [transfer],» said Kouvelis, adding that anything more than that ?must be resisted.?
Eurozone leaders struck a deal with private banks and insurers on Thursday for them to accept a 50 percent loss on their Greek government bonds under a plan to lower Greece’s debt burden and try to contain a burgeoning crisis in the euro area.
