Protest in Athens on Wednesday
Parts of the city center were expected to be cordoned off to traffic on Wednesday as Greece’s two biggest labor unions, GSEE and ADEDY, are planning an anti-austerity rally in Syntagma Square at 4 p.m.
The demonstration coincides with a debate in Parliament on emergency legislation aimed at slashing state spending further through cuts to main and auxiliary pensions and to the salaies of certain civil servants including clerics, judges and members of the armed forces.
