EU Task Force chief expected in Athens

Horst Reichenbach, the head of the European Union’s Task Force for Greece, is expected in Athens on Monday, where he will meet with officials ahead of drafting a report on the debt-racked country’s progress.

Reichenbach is to meet with newly appointed Development Anna Diamantopoulou in order to discuss the pace of reforms demanded by Greece’s creditors, as the eurozone’s finance ministers meet in Brussels to decide on the disbursement of 130 billion euros in bailout funding.

The Task Force for Greece is expected to publish a report on Thursday outlining the steps taken by the government to push through much-needed structural reforms as well as on the progress made to jump-start large-scale infrastructure projects and investments through the better absorption of EU funds.

Reichenbach will also be meeting with representatives of the country’s unions to discuss reforms to, among other professional areas, the public sector, aimed at reducing spending through wage and pension cuts.
